This on-demand CLE broadcast is based on a live webcast CLE on December 29, 2017, 1-3 pm in Oklahoma City, however this on-demand version has a set of slides that show during the broadcast (rather just seeing the presenter talk), which makes for a much more interesting program.
The Center for Conscience in Action and the Military Law Task Force of the National Lawyers Guild are proud to invite attorneys to participate in an on-demand FREE CLE opportunity.
This workshop is what we hope will be an annual tradition of providing CLE content on human rights topics at the end of the year, with this year focusing on military law issues.
This year’s presentations are:
- 1st hour – Compare & Contrast: The Military vs. Civilian systems of criminal justice
- 2nd hour – Defenses, Mitigation, Extenuation and Aggravation as it relates to absence offenses under the UCMJ
Presenter: James M. Branum, a civilian attorney with more than 11 years of experience in representing US military service members before courts-martial and administrative boards.
Course Credits: This course is approved for 2.5 hours of on-demand general CLE credit in Oklahoma. We also are hoping to work with a presumptively approved CLE provider in California so that this CLE will be easily available to California attorneys. We would be glad to provide a uniform application for accreditation of CLE credit for attendees from other states, but of course approval is contingent upon your state’s bar.
Cost: Free but a suggested donation of $50 to the Center for Conscience in Action and/or the Military Law Task Force of the National Guild would be appreciated. Lawyers in states other than Oklahoma may need to pay a nominal fee to your state’s MCLE agency to apply for this course to be accredited for CLE credit. We expect (but cannot guarantee) that other state bars would approve this program.
Downloadable Course Materials:
2016 Manual for Courts-Martial
US Army AWOL: A Practice Guide and Formbook, Advance Release of the Second Edition (2017) – PDF download (the password for this file is: justice).
How to participate: After downloading the course materials, you will need to watch these video presentations:
While watching the video presentations, be sure to jot down the codes given at random points the broadcasts.
And then after completing the videos, please email us at girightslawyer(at)gmail(dot)com with your name, state, bar # and the codes. We will then send you a certificate of completion as well as the uniform application for accreditation of CLE credit (if you are not an Oklahoma lawyer).
